Digital Goa, October 8 – Department of Posts under Ministry of Communications has approved key amendments to the recruitment conditions for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts in Goa, making proficiency in Konkani a mandatory requirement for all applicants. As per the revised policy outlined in Office Memorandum dated October 7, 2025, both Konkani and Marathi have been officially recognized as local languages for GDS recruitment in Goa. Candidates who have studied Konkani or Marathi up to the 10th standard will be eligible to apply. However, those who have studied only Marathi must also demonstrate proficiency in Konkani, verified through a certificate issued by the Goa Konkani Akademi or another state-authorized body. CM Pramod Sawant, following a meeting with Ramesh Patil, Director of Postal Services (Goa Region), said that the reform is “a significant step towards prioritizing Goenkars in recruitment.”
