Let bill come in Assembly, we will discuss it there’: CM Sawant on anti-conversion bill

Digital Goa, Aug 27 – CM Pramod Sawant on Thursday, in a way, sought to brush aside the ongoing debate over the Goa Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, 2026, saying the proposed legislation should first be introduced and discussed in the Assembly. “Let the Bill be introduced. Why discuss now a Bill which is going to come before the Assembly and will be discussed there? Let us discuss it there,” Sawant said. His remarks come amid opposition to the Bill, which was approved by the Goa Cabinet on August 26 and is set to be tabled during the upcoming Assembly session starting Aug 31. Opposition parties, Church-linked organisations and other groups have raised objections to the proposed legislation, while some legislators including those in the ruling have sought greater scrutiny of its provisions.
