Lifesaving AEDs now mandatory for residential complexes with 50 or more units

Dec 20- On the backdrop of rising instances of heart related ailments in Goa, the State govt has made it mandatory for large residential complexes to have automatic defibrillator. Every residential complex consisting of 50 or more flats/units will have to provide space for provision of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) which are to be strategically located and easily accessible to the occupants of the building. AED’s are devices that use an electric charge or current to the heart to reestablish a normal heartbeat. Goa Public Health Act has ben amended to this effect by the Health Dept. Govt has also mandated that a minimum of 25% of persons residing in such residential complex must undergo certified basic first responder life saving skills training through agencies certified by Government including learning the use these devices. It has also been made mandatory for the residential complexes to display Cardiac Standard Operating Procedures on notice board at prominent place in the complex.
