Digital Goa, May 27 – Liver transplant operations will start at Goa Medical College(GMC) Hospital from next year onwards, informed GMC dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar. GMC has started Gastroenterology department which will be headed by Dr Amit Maydeo.
▪️ 42 patients waiting for kidney donors in Goa
As of now GMC has only facilities for kidney transplant. In all 42 patients are on the wait list in Goa for receiving kidney. GMC has skin bank and process for setting up eye bank is in process, informed Dean. He urged people to be informed about the organ donation programs which can save several lives. Bandekar was briefing the media about the organ donation of 19-year-old brain dead youth from Uttar Pradesh yesterday. He said that the father of the boy will be felicitated for his noble deed.
▪️ GMC will restart giving medicines for multiple months
Stating that new tender for supply of medicines to GMC Hospital has been approved, Dean assure that patients requiring medicines for several months will be given the same in one go. He said that for a brief period, medicines were given for only one month at a time as the contract with the supplier had expired.
▪️ Covid ward to be discontinued
Covid pandemic has taken endemic form and number of patient admissions has been reduced to a handful. In view of this ward 145 at GMC which was reserved for covid patients will now be made available for admitting other patients, he informed.
