Nov 21- The five yearly livestock census commenced in Goa today. This is the 21st census and for the first time it will be conducted digitally. “The census will cover 16 species and 221 breeds, including cattle, buffaloes, goats, pigs, and poultry. For the first time, it will also gather breed-specific data on pet dogs,” informed Minister for Animal Husbandry Nilkant Halarnkar. Census officials will visit households across the state to collect detailed information on livestock and pets. Pointing out that the findings will inform better policies for animal welfare and public safety, Halarnkar has urged residents to cooperate with census workers to ensure successful data collection.
