Oct 8 – Smart City Panaji is set to get its localised Heat Action Plan (HAP) to tackle the climate risks. MoU has been signed to this effect between IPSCDL and the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). The two organisations are expected to collaboratively develop a comprehensive Heat Action Plan (HAP) for Panaji, mapping heat risks at the ward level, and creating a heat index that integrates temperature and humidity data. The HAP is also expected to establish localized heat thresholds for early warnings and engage stakeholders in heat risk mitigation efforts. Urban cooling strategies and targeted interventions will also be planned to protect Panaji’s most vulnerable populations including outdoor workers and the elderly and enhance the city’s climate resilience. As per IMD stats Goa’s average temperature has increased by 1.44°C over the past century, with projections indicating a further rise of 2°C by the 2030s.
