Jan 19 – Loliem-Polem Gram Sabha debated the Film City proposal today with significant number of villagers expressing strong opposition to the project. Villagers in support of the project argued that the project was necessary for development of the area and also for employment generation for village youth. Villagers opposing the project alleged that the project would destroy the fragile ecosystem of the area and benefit accrued by the locals through the project would be minimal. They demanded that the Sarpanch writes to the Loliem-Polem Comunidade and the Entertainment Society of Goa seeking clarity on the 99-year lease agreement and cancellation of the same if already entered into. They also sought revocation of the Affidavit Cum No Objection Certificate issued by Communidade administrator for the project in October 2024. Incidentally, ESG has already engaged Resurgent India Ltd — an investment banking firm — to provide transaction advisory services for the Film City’s development.
