Digital Goa, July 2 – In a major crackdown, the Civil Supplies Department, BPCL, HPCL, and Verna Police busted an illegal LPG siphoning racket operating in an open area at Peacock Valley, Sancoale. The raid, conducted late night yesterday, during a surprise inspection, led to the seizure of over 1,000 LPG cylinders and 7 vehicles, including 6 belonging to the proprietor of an LPG service in Pilar. Among the seized cylinders, 132 domestic and 18 commercial cylinders were found to be underweight. The accused were allegedly engaged in unauthorised LPG decanting — transferring gas from one cylinder to another — without safety precautions or legal permissions, thereby endangering human lives and disrupting the regulated supply of LPG to the public. An FIR has been registered at Verna Police Station in this regard.
Civil Supplies Minister Ravi Naik has assured strict action against those involved in the hazardous and illegal operation.
