Digital Goa, Nov 18 – In a shocking incident at Baina, a major armed dacoity was reported at the residence of Sagar Nayak in the early hours of Tuesday. A group of 7 to 8 masked men, armed with iron and aluminium rods, allegedly entered the seventh-floor apartment in Chamundi Arcade around 2.30am, gaining access from the backside of the apartment. The intruders targeted the family while they were asleep. They allegedly broke open the bedroom door using rods and assaulted Sagar his wife Harsha Nayak, her elderly ailing mother, and the couple’s daughter. When Sagar resisted in the beginning and refused to hand over the keys, the men brutally attacked him with the rods, leaving him bleeding profusely. The family was also reportedly tied up and threatened with death during the ordeal. Significant amounts of gold ornaments and cash were kept in the house in view of recently concluded Diwali festival and an upcoming event at Partagal math. The accused fled away from the building, with the valuables by around 3.05 am. Harsha told police that the men appeared young, communicated in a “Bihar-type language”. She said they seemed familiar with the layout of the building and the apartment as they avoided CCTVs, raising suspicion that they may have had prior knowledge of the premises. They wore helmets and masks throughout the attack, she added. Sagar, who sustained multiple injuries, has been shifted to the hospital and is now out of danger. His wife and daughter have also suffered injuries.
South Goa SP Tikam Singh Verma who was at the site, confirmed the dacoity. He informed that investigation is underway. The teams are verifying CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and track down the culprits, he added.
