Mandar Surlakar murder case : State moves Supreme Court; Ryan Pinto to be released today

Digital Goa, August, 10 – The Goa government has moved the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court at Goa’s August 6 order granting premature release to three convicts in the 2006 Mandar Surlakar murder case — Ryan Pinto, Rohan Dhungat and Shankar Tiwari. The State informed the High Court today that it has filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court. The High Court clarified that the release of the convicts pursuant to its August 6 order would be subject to the outcome and orders passed in the SLP. Meanwhile, the Goa government and Colvale Central Jail authorities informed the High Court that Pinto would be released from custody today after completing the formality of executing a No Dues Certificate at the prison. The court accepted the statement and posted the matter for compliance on August 12. Dhungat and Tiwari, who are currently out on parole, have been asked to appear before the jail authorities and complete the formalities for their formal release.
