Digital Goa, June 13 – Ponda Police have arrested 23-year-old Muneer Shafiq, a businessman from Mangalore, in connection with the abduction of Ponda-based businessman Sandeep Chowdhury. Shafiq was apprehended from Kolhapur while on his way to Mumbai. According to Ponda DySP Shivram Vaigankar, the abduction stemmed from a business rivalry and financial dispute between the two. Chowdhury who is into scrap business was kidnapped in Ponda by five of Shafiq’s employees, while Shafiq reportedly followed the abductors in a separate car. Acting on clues, police tracked the vehicles to Bengaluru and successfully rescued Sandeep. He had reportedly been assaulted by the abductors and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Goa. Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining accused.
