Margao Court & Mormugao Harbour police designated authority for anti-piracy cases

Digital Goa, Apr 2- Central Government has designated the Court of the District Judge-2 and Additional Sessions Judge, Margao, as the Designated Court for cases under the Maritime Anti-Piracy Act, 2022. This move, exercised under Section 8 of the Act, aims to streamline legal proceedings related to maritime piracy.
In addition, Central Government has authorized officers of the Indian Navy (Chief Petty Officer and above) and the Indian Coast Guard (Adhikari and above) to exercise arrest powers under the BNSS, 2023, for cases under the Maritime Anti-Piracy Act, 2022. Additionally, officers of the rank of Sub-Inspector and above from the Harbour Coastal Security Police Station, Mormugao, have been granted powers for arrest, investigation, and prosecution under the Act.
