Jan 9 – Margao District & Sessions Court today reserved its order on writer and businessman Datta Naik’s anticipatory bail plea for tomorrow. While opposing the bail to Naik, Canacona police said that his custody is needed to gather evidence as his statement has sparked law and order tensions in the State. Naik’s Counsel Cleofato Almeida said that his client has also clarified that the religious institutions name and the words like ‘loot’ should not have been there, they were inadvertently said, he added. At the most it can be defamation, it can never be a crime under 295 A or 299 of BNS, he added further.
