Despite a rebound in marine exports in 2025-26, Goa’s seafood processing and export industry remains heavily dependent on one factor it cannot control –– the catch from the Arabian Sea. Exporters say weak catches over the past two years pulled down shipments and earnings, while rising freight, labour and packaging costs are adding to the pressure on margins.“Much of Goa’s seafood export business is based on wild, or ocean catch. The factories operating in the state depend on fish landed by fishing vessels rather than farmed seafood, making the industry vulnerable to fluctuations in the natural marine environment,” said president of Seafood Exporters’ Association of India (Goa region), Maulana Ibrahim.
