Mass fish die-off reported yet again, now at Campal Lake

Digital Goa, June 2 – A large number of dead fish were found floating in the lake at Campal Lakeview Colony in Panaji on Tuesday, triggering concerns over water pollution and environmental degradation. The fish kill has also led to a foul smell in the area, prompting complaints from local residents. The lake is connected to the St. Inez Creek, and locals suspect the incident may have been caused by toxic urban runoff, a sudden depletion of dissolved oxygen levels, or the discharge of untreated sewage into the water body. Workers of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) were deployed with a boat to remove the dead fish and clear the lake. The incident comes close on the heels of a similar large-scale fish die-off at Mala Lake, which had prompted intervention by the High Court and a crackdown on illegal sewage outlets in Panaji.
