Digital Goa, Jan 10 – Major fire broke out at a Berger Becker Coatings factory in Pilerne Industrial Estate in Bardez today. The factory contained large quantity of paint and chemicals due to which the fire escalated and engulfed the entire factory. Efforts are on to save the adjacent buildings and factories. Several fire tenders from nearby towns including Pilerne, Porvorim, Mapusa, Panaji, Kundaim, Ponda, Curchorem and Margao have been pressed into service to control the raging fire. No one has been injured in the incident. Short circuit is suspected to be cause of fire. Entire factory and a truck parked outside it has been engulfed in fire. Blasts are being reported from inside the factory which had huge quantities of chemicals stored inside. Foam has been requisitioned by fire fighters to control the fire. If required, help will be sought from Indian Army, informed Chairman IDC. The fire was so massive that the smoke from the flames was visible from several kilometers away, including from the capital city of Panaji which is almost 12.5 Km away.
