Residents in Sattari taluka living along the banks of the Mhadei and its tributaries have expressed concerns over the river water dipping to alarming levels during summer over the past five years. Environmentalists said that the destruction of green cover has drastically reduced the soil’s rainwater holding capacity. Despite adequate showers, rainwater quickly empties into the sea, they said.

 To ensure that tax obligations are met by residents and commercial establishments and that it doesn’t suffer financial losses, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) will soon discontinue garbage collection for those who have not paid their house tax. The CCP will begin by addressing commercial establishments before moving on to residential houses and complexes. Mayor Rohit Monserrate said that a large-scale drive would soon be launched to identify commercial establishments in the city that have outstanding dues to the corporation, as well as those operating illegally without the necessary trade licence from the civic body.

The Gujarat state monitoring cell (SMC) arrived in Goa and arrested Bharat Dangi, a resident of Udaipur, for his alleged involvement in the trading of foreign liquor of Indian make from Rajasthan. The Gujarat police had declared a reward of Rs 50,000 on Dangi. He has been absconding in more than nine cases under the Prohibition Act in Ahmedabad City and Rural police, Panchmahal, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, and Vadodara City since 2022.
