Feb 6 – Goa govt has hiked minimum support price for cashew nuts from Rs 150 per kg to Rs 170 per kg. In addition benefit of the scheme will be provided to maximum of 4000 kgs per individual cultivator, considering max area of 10 ha (the earlier maximum limit was 2000 kgs per individual cultivator, considering max. area of 5 ha). In addition, the maximum limit of difference amount between the assured price of Rs. 170/- and the actual sale price below the assured price shall be Rs 50 per kg. Goa govt has notified amendment to the State Sector Scheme- ‘Assured Price for Agricultural Produce’ to this effect.
There is no increase in the support price for coconut i.e. the support price remains Rs 6 per nut. However, maximum assured price to be paid to an individual farmer has been increased to Rs 9 lakh from Rs 3.5 lakh. The benefit can be taken on upto one lakh nuts per beneficiary for a maximum area of 10 ha. with 1600 bearing coconut trees (earlier it was 50,000 nuts for maximum area of 5 ha with 800 coconut trees).
