Digital Goa, August 3 – Legislators raised concern over proposed hike in power tariff for the financial year 2025–26, as the state government defended the revision on the floor of the house. The issue was raised through a joint Calling Attention motion by Opposition Leaders. Power Minister informed the Assembly that the hike will be around 5.75% overall, with a 3% rise for lower slabs, which cover nearly 70% of domestic users. However, for higher consumption categories, the increase is steeper. The overall power hike for domestic consumers ranges from 6 to 40 paise per unit based on units consumed, the house was told. With families already stretched by rising costs across sectors, MLAs questioned the need for repeated tariff hikes, alleging that there is no clear improvement in service delivery or infrastructure upgrades.
