Monsoon finally gathers pace, leaves a trail of disruptions

Digital Goa, June 23 – Rainfall activity picked up across Goa on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief to farmers and respite from the recent spell of hot and humid weather. However, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds also disrupted normal life. Flooding and water clogging was witnessed in several parts of the state. Several trees were uprooted, roads were submerged and power outages were reported from some areas. Water was seen overflowing from the under-construction Porvorim flyover, causing inconvenience to commuters. In Panaji, an old tree was uprooted near CM Pramod Sawant’s official residence at Altinho, damaging two cars belonging to members of a Gouly-Dhangar community delegation that had come to meet the Chief Minister. No injuries were reported. Fire and Emergency Services personnel responded to dozens of weather-related incidents across the state as strong winds and heavy rain uprooted trees, damaged houses and vehicles, and disrupted traffic. Several trees fell on roads, electric lines, houses and parked vehicles in areas including Panaji, Taleigao, Bambolim, Vasco, Ponda, Mapusa, Anjuna, Siolim, Sangolda and Sattari. Power disruptions were reported in some localities after trees and branches fell on electrical infrastructure.
