Monsoon vigorous over Goa; yesterday recorded 2nd highest daily rainfall of the season

Digital Goa, August 18 – The Southwest Monsoon was vigorous over Goa, thanks to a well-marked low-pressure area over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. Incidentally, Goa recorded the second highest daily rainfall of this season with 106 mm average recorded in 24 hours ending 8.30 m today. Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at most places across the state yesterday. The following stations recorded very heavy rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM this morning: Sanquelim – 132.4 mm, Dharbandora – 131.6 mm, Margao – 131.3 mm, and Sanguem – 119.2 mm. Other areas that received heavy rain include Ela (Old Goa) – 115 mm, Valpoi – 104.3 mm, Mapusa – 104 mm, Pernem – 98.8 mm, Canacona – 97.4 mm, Quepem – 95 mm, Mormugao – 88.6 mm, Dabolim – 83.6 mm, and Panaji – 78.4 mm. The IMD has issued a warning for heavy rainfall today and a yellow alert for the next four days.
