Nov 20 – Goa govt is contemplating bringing more amendments to the Co-operative Societies Act to curb rampant irregularities in the sector, informed CM Pramod Sawant. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of 71st National Co-Operative Week 2024 and presentation of Co-Operative Awards. Pointing out that common citizens has been fleeced for crores of rupees through co-operative sector scams in Goa, Sawant called for the need to implement measures to further tighten the noose and streamline the sector. Scams in this sector are the biggest scams running into crores, he opined lamenting that govt’s hands are tied due to tedious procedures. He also advised forming of small scale agro based societies to give a boost to the co-operative sector and make it financially independent.
