Mormugao Municipal Council asks residents in landslide-prone areas to vacate ahead of monsoon

Digital Goa, May 6- The Mormugao Municipal Council has issued a public appeal to residents living in areas prone to landslides and waterlogging to vacate their homes immediately as a precautionary measure ahead of the monsoon season. The Council has flagged several areas within its jurisdiction — including behind MPT Quarters-Bogda, Bogdeshwar Temple-Bogda, El-Monte Theatre-Desterro, Upper Jetty, Islampur-Baina, Holy Cross-Sasmolem, Candelaria Church, GSL vicinity, New Vaddem, Driver Hill, Khariwada, Sada, Bogda, Harbour Jetty, Mangor Hill, and Vaddem — as vulnerable to natural calamities such as landslides and heavy waterlogging. The civic body has reiterated that notices have already been issued in the past to households located in these risky zones. The appeal, calls for immediate evacuation with household belongings to safeguard lives and property. Despite the warnings, some occupants continue to live in structures deemed unsafe, the notice adds. MMC has said that those staying in these areas will have to do so at their own risk. The Council has also warned that it may take further action under existing rules without additional notice.
