Digital Goa, Nov 4 – A 43-year-old person from Dabolim, Mormugao, was duped of ₹49.42 lakh after being coerced into downloading a fake share trading app and investing through it. The Goa Police Cyber Crime Cell has registered an offence against unidentified WhatsApp users involved in the fraud. According to the complaint, between August 20 and October 22, 2025, two WhatsApp numbers contacted the victim, posing as licensed share brokers and luring him with promises of high returns. The accused also added him to a WhatsApp group. Believing the claims, the victim transferred around ₹49.42 lakh from his bank accounts through the app. A few days later, his account on the app was blocked, making him realise that he had been cheated.
