Digital Goa, June 23 – Mumbai native currently staying at Fatorda was allegedly cheated of ₹3.25 lakh by cyber fraudsters who tricked him into installing a malicious mobile application under the pretext of updating his gas bill. The complainant received a phone call from an unknown person claiming to assist with a gas bill update. The caller allegedly persuaded him to install a file named “Mahanagar Gas Bill Update APK” on his mobile phone. Police said the malicious application enabled the accused to gain unauthorized access to Naik’s mobile device, following which four fraudulent UPI transactions were carried out from his Canara Bank account, resulting in a loss of ₹3,25,490.
