National Security Act imposed in Goa for 3 months, Home Dept issues order

Digital Goa, Nov 6 – The Goa government has empowered the district magistrates of North Goa and South Goa to exercise powers under the National Security Act (NSA) for a period of three months. The order, issued on November 5, 2025, by the Department of Home (General), states that the delegation of powers under Section 3(2) of the NSA has been made “having regard to the circumstances prevailing” in both districts. The notification will come into effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. The primary significance of imposing the NSA in a state is to empower the government to take proactive, preventive action by detaining individuals who are perceived as a potential threat to national security or public order, even without formal charges or a regular trial process. The Act allows authorities to order preventive detention for up to 12 months, subject to review. The notification, issued in the name of the Governor and signed by Under Secretary (Home-I), enables the district magistrates to invoke these powers if they are satisfied that such detention is necessary to maintain public order or security.
