Digital Goa, Oct 14 – Goa Electricity Department has issued a circular clarifying that no new electricity connections shall be released to illegal structures or buildings solely on the basis of Enabling Housing Number (EHN) tags, without valid permissions from the concerned authorities. It notes that while the department had earlier allowed electricity connections against EHN tags, this shall no longer be permitted. The decision has been taken after govt issued a clarification to the department that grant of EHN number to unauthorized structure does not in any way grant legal status to the structure. Govt has further clarified to the department that the purpose of EHN number is only limited to the purpose of taxation for the local bodies. Thus, no new connections should be released for EHN numbers. Citing a High Court order dated March 6, 2025, the circular further directs that new electricity connections will only be granted to applicants possessing valid construction licenses and technical clearance certificates. All sub-divisional officers have been instructed to implement these directives with immediate effect.
