Digital Goa, Aug 30 – Employers will be liable to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 for failing to implement the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, states a mandate issued by the Directorate of Women & Child Development today. “All the Government departments/Organizations/undertakings/ industrial establishments, educational institutions/ private sector organizations, hospitals, Sport Institutes, other professionals etc are hereby directed to ensure the implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal ) Act, 2013, failure shall attract penalty which may extend to Rs. 50,000/- as prescribed under Section 26 of the Act for non compliance of the Provision of the Act,” states the W CD Dept release. The POSH Act is a legislation enacted by the union govt to address the issue of sexual harassment faced by women in the workplace. It defined sexual harassment, lay down the procedures for complaint and inquiry, and the action to be taken in cases of sexual harassment.
