Digital Goa, August, 17 – CM Pramod Sawant has questioned the opposition to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, saying there is “nothing to oppose” in the proposed legislation.
“I do not understand why there should be opposition. There is nothing to oppose in the FCRA Bill,” Sawant said. Incidentally, of the 200 organisations registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) in Goa, only 78 currently have active registrations, according to data available on the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ FCRA portal. Registrations of 80 organisations have been cancelled, while 42 are classified as “deemed ceased”. Last week the Lok Sabha referred the bill to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for detailed examination. The Bill, has faced opposition over provisions empowering a government-appointed authority to manage and dispose of assets created from foreign contributions after an organisation loses its FCRA registration.
