NURSING JOB FIASCO: If You Can’t Give Jobs, At Least Don’t Humiliate Goan Youth

Thousands of job seekers turned up in Panaji this morning to attend interviews for 100 contractual nursing posts advertised by the Directorate of Health Services. The incident not only exposed the grave unemployment situation in the state but also highlighted the mismanagement on the part of the Health Department. Around 4,000 job aspirants, mostly women from across the state, lined up outside the Health Department headquarters at Campal as early as 6 a.m. Due to inadequate arrangements by the authorities, the queue moved very slowly, and thousands of young women were forced to stand on the roadside, enduring sun and rain throughout the day. Many were informed only after reaching the venue that they needed to pre-register for the interview. The situation at the Health Department descended into total chaos, as officials appeared unprepared to handle such a large turnout. There were sharp reactions from the public and political parties to this unprecedented scenario.
