Digital Goa, Mar 21 – The Indian Navy successfully conducted a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation in the early hours of March 21, rescuing three injured crew members from MV Heilan Star, a Panama-flagged bulk carrier, located 230 nautical miles west of Goa. One crew member succumbed to injuries before the rescue. The Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai alerted the Navy about four crew members suffering severe burn injuries. The Navy diverted INS Vikrant and INS Deepak to provide aid. At first light, a Seaking helicopter from INS Vikrant airlifted two Chinese and one Indonesian crew member. The rescued crew were flown to INS Hansa, Goa, from where they transferred to a civil hospital for further medical care.
