July 29 – Opposition MLAs cornered the govt over delay in notifying places of historical importance in the state such as Azad Maidan, Chieftain Memorial, Lohia Maidan etc as protected monuments. They pointed out that the places are not maintained properly and also used as shelters by drunkards and anti social elements. As the places are not over 100 years old they cannot be brought under the purview of protected monument act, the house was told. Govt also opined that making these sites as protected monuments will prevent use of the sites for meetings, and protests. Opposition suggested that some security measures be put in place at the sites to maintain the sanctity of the places.
