Digital Goa, July 22 – Opposition MLAs raised the issue of overflowing sewerage chambers across multiple urban and semi-urban areas in Goa through a Calling Attention Motion in the Assembly. Speaking on the matter, LoP Yuri Alemao alleged that unplanned sewerage pumping stations are creating serious public health hazards and causing environmental degradation. He said that untreated sewage is overflowing into agricultural fields, turning them infertile, while also polluting rivers, water bodies, and contaminating groundwater. In response, CM Pramod Sawant stated that it is now mandatory for all sewage collection tankers to be registered with the Sewerage Corporation and are colour coded. He warned that unregistered tankers would face strict action. CM also assured the House that Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) that are overflowing or not functioning properly will be directed to be repaired.
