Opposition walks into well of the House over Unity Mall project

Digital Goa, Jan 13 – Opposition members walked into the well of the House for the second time on Tuesday, this time raising objections over the Unity Mall issue, forcing the Speaker to adjourn proceedings for 10 minutes. The disruption occurred during a Calling Attention motion moved by St Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes, seeking clarification from the govt on the proposed and ongoing development around Toyyar Lake, a wetland known for its ecosystem and biodiversity. During the discussion on the Calling Attention, CM Dr Pramod Sawant asserted that the Unity Mall project will not affect Toyar Lake. He went on to add that the project does not fall within the lake’s impact zone and was taken up only after securing all required clearances, including environmental approvals. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said that the project would create jobs and benefit locals in several ways.
