Digital Goa, July 1 – Over 2 lakh fish samples tested at 3 different locations in Goa since 2019 have shown no traces of formalin, informed Minister Vishwajeet Rane. In partnership with the Quality Council of India (QCI), round-the-clock quality checks have been conducted at key locations — 33,805 samples at Pollem, 33,989 at Patradevi, and 1,32,717 at the Margao Wholesale Market. All these samples tested negative for formalin, he said. FDA regularly conducts fish testing through its own advanced laboratory as well as NABL-accredited third-party labs. Between March and June 2025, fish samples collected from both North and South Goa were tested and none were found to contain added formaldehyde, he asserted. Rane further informed that Goa’s Food & Drugs Laboratory is equipped with sophisticated instruments such as GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, and ICP-MS, which enable thorough testing to detect any contaminants, ensuring public health and safety.
