Jan 15- Over 56,000 stray dogs have been enumerated so far in Goa as part of the ongoing livestock census launched by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services(AHVS), informed Dept Director V P Singh. The 21st National Livestock Census survey being carried out in 627 village and urban wards through 115 enumerators, 31 supervisors and 2 nodal officers using digital data collection methods. Singh has asked livestock owners to co-operate with the survey team and give correct information. Assistance is also being taken from local panchayats and NGOs. The 4 month long survey which was initiated in Goa in November 2024 will be completed by next month. Livestock census is conducted every 5 years in the country to create an accurate inventory of livestock such as cattle, buffalo, goats, pigs, poultry etc. The data supports vaccination campaigns, animal welfare programs, livestock health and diseases management and also supports endangered breed preservation.
