Digital Goa, Feb 10 – Panaji is most polluted city in Goa and at 73 microgram per cubic meter (µg/m3) the Particulate Matter 10 (PM10) concentrations level of the capital city is way above the safe limit of 60 µg/m3 as per the year 2021 data tabled before the Rajya Sabha by Union MoEF&CC Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey. He was answering to a question regarding status of pollution level in the country. Panaji was ranked at 230 among 389 cities of the country as per report tabled before the Rajya Sabha. With a PM 10 level of 319 µg/m3, Harayana’s Sonepat is most polluted city in the country as per the status report of Ambient Air Quality data presented before the RS.

Total 9 cities and towns in Goa have PM 10 levels above the safe 60 µg/m3. These include Panaji 73, Cuncolim 67, Usgao-Pale 64, Ponda 63, Codli 62, Kundaim 62, Tilamol 62, Bicholim 61 andHonda 61. The PM10 levels in µg/m3 of other cities that feature in the list include – Sanguem 60, Amona 59, Margao 59, Tuem 59, Vasco 58, Assanora 58 and Mapusa 57. As of Feb 2023, center has spent Rs 8727 crores since 2020under National Clean Air Programme for taking measures to improve air quality of the polluted cities.
