Panaji residents approach PDA, TCP over commercialisation of Panjim Park

Digital Goa, August, 10 – Panaji residents and activists under the banner of ‘People of Panaji’ on August 10 submitted a representation to the Planning and Development Authority (PDA) and the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department opposing the change of land use and alleged commercialisation of Panjim Park, opposite Hotel Mandovi. The issue is already before the court, with NGO Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) filing a Public Interest Litigation challenging the commercialisation and major structural changes proposed at Panjim Park, also known as the Quarter Deck, along the Mandovi River. The petition has questioned the change in land use of the property from a public space marked as Flood Plain (FP) Recreational Zone to a Special Commercial Zone. It has also raised concerns over the consequent significant increase in the permissible Floor Area Ratio (FAR).
