Digital Goa, July 30 – Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), North Goa, has awarded compensation of ₹12.26 lakh to the parents of a 29-year-old person who died in a road accident near Kerai, Khandepar, Ponda, in May 2016. The Tribunal held that the accident occurred due to the rash and negligent driving of a Trax jeep and rejected the insurance company’s contention that the deceased was responsible for the crash. The Tribunal directed the driver, owner and insurer to jointly and severally pay the compensation, with the insurance company ordered to deposit the entire amount along with 7.5% annual interest from the date of filing of the claim petition in 2018 until payment.
