Digital Goa, Feb 28 – Number of passengers at Dabolim Airport reduced by 15 to 20 % as compared to last financial year, informed S V.T. Dhanamjaya Rao, Airport director of Dabolim International Airport. 8.4 million passengers (84 lakh) were handled by the Airport in last financial year, this financial year the number has been reduced to around 7 million(70 lakh). Äround 15 to 20 % difference,” said Rao. Announcement of shifting to Mopa Airport from June by Quatar Airlines which operates one flight per day at Dabolim Airport has stirred a hornet’s nest. Fears have been expressed by people from South Goa and opposition that the airport may turn into ghost airport if most Airlines shift their base to Mopa. “Dabolim Airport will remain operational. It has very good potential even now,” claimed Rao. Coming summer schedule will get additional flights for Dabolim, he asserted. Most charter flights except for one charter operator are operating from Dabolim, he added. In March Indigo Airlines will start 2 more flights on Hyderabad-Goa-Pune sector, he informed.
