Protest erupts in Panaji demanding justice to social activist Rama Kankonkar

Digital Goa, September 19 – A large number of people and activists, led by opposition leaders from the Congress, AAP, Goa Forward Party, and Revolutionary Goans Party, staged a protest at Azad Maidan on Friday demanding justice for activist Rama Kankonkar.
▪️ Police resorted to lathi charge injuring several people including some leaders. AAP MLA Venzy Viegas and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao also alleged that police hit them with lathis.
▪️ Following this, protestors marched to the Police Headquarters wherein the gates were closed.
▪️ After that they went to BJP office in Panaji, only to find the premises closed.
▪️ When they attempted to march to the Chief Minister’s residence at Altinho, police blocked their path, after which the protest continued in the city.
▪️ They further blocked main entry and exit roads (new patto bridge) in the capital near the old Secretariat.
Protestors alleged a “total collapse of law and order” in Goa and demanded swift justice in the case. South Goa MP and Congress Leader Capt Viriato Fernandes alleged involvement of Minister in the assault and said that the persons name will be disclosed at the right time. Social Activist Rama Kankonkar was brutally assaulted and thrown on road in broad day light by a group of 6 persons at Caranzalem yesterday afternoon. Police have nabbed 5 of the 6 accused, while trying to flee Goa.
