Railway double tracking: Goa seeks revocation of abeyance order on 15.6077 ha forest diversion in Kulem-Kalem Section, REC to decide on proposal tomorrow

Feb 25- Goa govt has requested Union Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to revoke the abeyance order on forest diversion proposals in the Kulem-Kalem section. The proposal involves the diversion of 15.6077 hectares of forest land for the Kulem-Madgaon railway doubling track under the Wildlife & Eco-Tourism (North) and North Goa Forest Division in favour of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd(RVNL). The proposal is one among the 2 items on the agenda of 84th meeting of the Regional Empowered Committee (REC) of MoEF&CC, scheduled tomorrow, February 26, at Bengaluru. The committee will deliberate on the matter under the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Adhiniyam, 1980 (VSESA). The meeting will be chaired by the Deputy Director General of Forests (Central) at the MoEF&CC Regional Office (Southern Zone), Bengaluru. The decision at the REC meeting will determine the project’s progress.
