Aug 1 – Goa govt will commission a comprehensive study through appropriate national agency over alarming number of kidney cases in Canacona, informed Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane. “I will speak to Secretary Health Govt of India,” he said adding that a team from Goa will be sent to Delhi in this regards after the assembly session. MLA Vijai Sardesai pointed out that there is one kidney patient in every 442 people in Canacona. Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar also asserted that it is a very serious issue and Health Dept needs to ensure that proper treatment is given to the patients. Rane assured of increasing dialysis centre in the state more specifically for the benefit of remote areas.
Recruitment policy needs to be tweaked to tide over doctor shortage
Conceding that theres is significant shortage of doctors in Goa, Rane called on the need to tweak the policy of the state govt to allow appointment of doctors from other states. Salary structure of the doctors will also have to be revised, he added. Due to absence of requisite facilities and doctors, people have started losing trust in Community Health Centres, Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye pointed out citing the case of CHC at Bicholim. Operation Theatre at the CHC have become storerooms, he pointed out.
