Revised Tax exemption announced on new vehicles on scrapping old ones

Digital Goa, Oct 7 – Goa Transport Department has introduced a new tax exemption scheme for owners registering new vehicles after scrapping old ones. The tax exemptions are applicable to new motor vehicles registered against the submission of a “Certificate of Deposit” of a scrapped vehicle. Transport vehicles are eligible for a tax exemption of 15% of the tax leviable or ₹75,000, whichever is lower, for up to eight years from first registration. Motor vehicles other than transport vehicles are eligible for a tax exemption of 25% of the tax leviable or ₹75,000, whichever is lower, for up to fifteen years. For all BS I Norms vehicles, transport and non-transport tax exemption would be 50% of tax leviable or ₹75,000, whichever is lower. Medium goods, heavy motor vehicles, and medium and heavy passenger vehicles adhering to BS II Norms are also eligible for an exemption of 50% of the tax leviable or ₹75,000, whichever is lower.
