Dec 30 – A floating jetty will be constructed adjacent to the existing Malim Jetty on Penha-De-Franca side by spending Rs 10 to 15 crore under PM Matsya Sampda Yojana to ease load on Malim Jetty. Detailed Project Report(DPR) regarding the project has already been sent to Delhi. Work will start once project is approved by the Center, informed Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar. He was speaking to media persons after visiting the Malim jetty today. He said the floating jetty will help reduce the waiting time for trawlers to unload their catch. He also informed that officials have been directed to sort out problems faced by trawler owners at Malim Jetty. He pointed out that GSIDC contractor has left the Malim Jetty work incomplete and abandoned it. GSIDC had started the work of construction and upgradation of fishing jetty at Malim (North Goa) and Cortalim (South Goa) at the cost of Rs 59 crore in 2017. The work was slated to be completed in May 2023.
