Oct 15 – The first fully automatic vacuum suction sewerage system in the country has been implemented in Panaji under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, with a total expenditure of ₹8.6 crore, informed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today. He was speaking to media persons during the launch of the system, which was implemented by Mumbai-based Nashviille Infra Services Limited. The company will also maintain the system for the next five years. Using this system, 90 odd houses in the low-lying areas along the St. Inez Creek and Mala have been connected to the sewerage network. The sewage, which was previously discharged into the St Inez Creek, will now be collected using the vacuum suction system, treated, and released. Notably, a similar Vacuum Sewage System catering to around 250 houses was implemented at Durbhat in 2017 by another company.
