Digital Goa, July 30 – The Salaulim Dam reached its full reservoir level and began overflowing through its distinctive duckbill spillway at 3:30 pm on Thursday, after a delayed monsoon. The overflow, often regarded as a key indicator of the monsoon activity in Goa, is the latest since 2012. A rainfall deficit this season delayed the filling of the reservoir by more than three weeks. While the dam typically begins overflowing around July 7, lower-than-normal rainfall slowed water accumulation, pushing the spillover to the end of July. The last comparable late overflow was in 2012, when the dam spilled over on August 3. In 2013, it overflowed on August 6, making the 2026 spillover one of the latest recorded in recent years. In contrast, the dam had overflowed much earlier last year, on June 26, 2025.
