Digital Goa, Oct 30 – Police have arrested seven persons in connection with illegal sand extraction from the Terekhol river at Uguvem, Pernem, even as investigations continue into the gunshot incident that left two labourers injured earlier this week. Robert Fernandes (46) and Ashok Mulgaonkar (48), both from Poroscodem, Pernem, along with five labourers — Sonelal Chaudhary (25), Munna Bin (38), Sonu Paswan (21), Vikas Bin (31) and Yogendra Chaudhari (30) — all residents of Bihar have been arrested for extracting sand from Terekhol river at Uguvem Pernem allegedly without any valid permissions from the concerned authorities. On October 28, unidentified person had fired gunshots on two Bihar native labourers — Ramrishi Paswan (54) and Lalbabu God (37) injuring them grievously. As per police, both were working for Robert Fernandes. Police informed that over 35 firearm holders have been interrogated, and their weapons inspected with assistance from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team in the gun firing case. Efforts are underway to identify and trace those involved in the firing, police added.
