Several mishaps reported across the state as IMD issues red alert for today

Digital Goa, July 5 – Rain continued to lash Goa for 8th consecutive day, completely disrupting normal life. IMD Goa has issued red alert for today. Several mishaps were reported across the state due to water logging, heavy breeze, slippery roads and softening of roadside mud. According to IMD heavy rains are likely to continue for a few more days as a result of low pressure belt. Many roads in the capital city of Panaji were water logged. Worst affected was the Campal-Miramar road. Water entered some house in low lying Campal and Tonca areas. A coconut tree fell right on top of Maruti van owned by one Francisco Mendes at Nerul, completely damaging the vehicle. A Bhendi tree fell on house near Queen of Angel chapel at Zuarer, Goa Velha while another tree fell on a house near Krishna Temple at Khorlim, Mapusa. Several vehicles including an Electricity Dept van got stuck in roadside ditches due to softening of mud along the roadside.
