Shack policy 2023-2026: 10 % hike in fees; no shacks on Keri beach stretch this season

Digital Goa, Sept 8 – Free structure of activities to be registered under Goa State Shack Policy has been increased by 10 % in the new policy approved by the cabinet today. Goa State Shack Policy 2023-26 for erection of temporary seasonal structures, beach shacks, deck-beds, umbrellas for Tourist Season 2023 – 2026 was approved by the state cabinet today. The new policy has set age limit for applicants for the first time. Only those in the age group of 18 to 60 years can apply for the shacks. As per the new policy 90% of the shacks will be allotted to those with one or more year of experience in running a shack and remaining 10 % will be allocated to those without experience. The Policy also speaks of “Digital Coast” at beaches of Goa where shack allottees shall be provided POS machines by the DOT. The new policy also has provision for picket fencing and scientific disposal of sewage waste including black & grey water with the help of concerned Local Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) and ULBS (Urban Local Body). Under the earlier policy 364 shacks were allocated – 259 in North Goa and 105 in South Goa.

No beach shacks will be allotted at Keri beach stretch for the Tourist Season 2023-24 as WRD will be taking up Anti Sea Erosion and protection work on the beach from Sept 2023 to March 2024
